Chrissy Teigen is a fit mom-to-be!
The pregnant model, 30, has been working out five days a week with her trainer Simone De La Rue.
“She’s very dedicated,” De La Rue tells PEOPLE. “When you’re in the spotlight, you have to take care of your body if you want to get your body back as quickly as you can.”
Teigen’s workouts with the Under Armour ambassador have not changed drastically from her pre-pregnancy workouts.
“We obviously have to cater and modify, but it’s surprising what you can still do,” says De La Rue. “We check in with each other, and I always ask her how she’s feeling. She listens to her body if some days she’s not feeling up to it.”
Teigen’s typical workouts include arm work and leg exercises (since ab exercises are off-limits after the first trimester).
“You need to have strong arms because you’re going to be lifting the baby, so I use the resistance bands with her and we do bicep curls and tricep curls and some extensions,” says the Body by Simone creator. “We use 3 and 5-lb. weights to do flies and overhead presses, really working on strengthening the shoulders and chest as well so that she’s ready to hold the baby.”
Teigen also does leg exercises on all fours, including pony kicks in which the leg kicks out directly behind you.
“We work on firing from the glutes to strengthen and keep a tight perky bottom throughout this,” says De La Rue. “[We also work on] stabilization and balance, because it’s something you have to work on as you’re growing and the baby’s growing – your balance really goes off [so you have to] keep strengthening the tendons and ankles.”
De La Rue says there’s nothing wrong with exercising throughout a pregnancy, as long as you listen to your body.
“Always stay in tune with your own body and see how you’re feeling day to day,” she says. “Every day is different – some days you have a lot of strength and other days you’re extremely tired, so be gentle to yourself and be kind, but know that it’s okay to work out, and it’s okay to work up a sweat.”
Anyone – pregnant or not – who wants to work out like Teigen, now can thanks to De La Rue’s new Body By Simone: The Signature Classes DVD, which includes two 55-minute workouts.
“I’m really proud of the DVD because it’s actually really hard,” says De La Rue, who includes both an interval training workout and her signature dance cardio workout on the DVD. “I hope [people] get the infectious energy. I tried to make it fun!”
